EDINBURGH
1.
Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities. It is in the south-east of Scotland and it is the capital. I think it is the most beautiful city in Britain. It is easy to get there by train or by car. It is a big city, but you can walk round the centre in about one hour. There are many nice pubs, cafés and restaurants where you can have lunch or dinner.
2.
You can visit museums, for example, the National Gallery of Scotland, the Wax Museum in the High Street or the new National Gallery of Modern Art and the Royal Scottish Museum. You can also visit the magnificent castle, the city’s oldest building. From there, you can see the sea and the mountains of Central Scotland.
3.
There is a festival in Edinburgh every year in August. It is an international festival. Thousands of people visit the city then. You can listen to music in the mornings, watch films in the afternoons, go to the theatre or to the opera house in the evenings. The festival continues for four weeks and there is entertainment for everybody. I think the best thing about the festival is the free entertainment outside. The streets are full of singers, actors and jugglers. In cafés and pubs, small groups sing, act or read poems. There is also a military parade at the castle every night and soldiers wear “kilts” and play the “bagpipes”.

Edinburgh is also an important commercial, academic and legal centre. Its cultural and artistic life is of international reputation. Its university is one of the four most important ones in Scotland.
